Thursday 23 May 2013 - AGM & Lecture: Dry Eyes - The Annual General Meeting of the Local Optometric Committee will be held on Thursday, 23 May 2013 at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel at 7.00pm. Hot food will be available from 6.15pm. The meeting will start with a lecture by Mr Andrew Price FBOA(Hons) CL, COA (USA) entitled "Treat the Cause of Dry Eyes not the Symptoms ". We firmly believe this lecture will be of interest to many of those involved in general practice and the ophthalmology community. All optometrists and GPs have been invited. After the lecture we will hold our AGM and further details will be posted on the website. If you are able to attend the lecture could you inform me at the email in the logo above to facilitate catering and to prepare the Register for the CET point.

Clayton Park on Monday 25th March 2013 6:15pm. An interactive CET point has been approved for optometrists under the competencies of : Professional Conduct and Communication

Here is a brief summary:
Staying out of Trouble:
Presented by Trevor Warburton BSc FCOptom, Clinical advisor to the AOP legal services dept.
The AOP is the biggest malpractice insurance provider to the optometric profession in the UK. It deals with hundreds of complaints and civil cases against optometrists every year and the number of cases in which the GOC are involved is rising fast.
Good record keeping has never been more essential to everyday practice. Although records are designed to aid the patient's future eye care they can also be an optometrist's best defence.
In this lecture, we examine where it can go wrong. Using real life case examples, we learn about common issues and how they can be avoided.
We remind practitioners about the rules, regulations and legislation that govern their every move, asking them to think about what they would do in a given situation.
Referrals are an important part of the patient journey. We will examine how to refer effectively and clearly, with the correct urgency and using the correct method for the benefit of patients and practitioners alike.
By the end of this lecture, the optometrist will have learned to "think defensively" but also how be a safer practitioner overall.

Food will be served from 6:15pm for a 7pm lecture and question & answer session.
Location: Clayton Park Conference Centre, just off junction 7 of the M65

Those interested in attending should contact the East Lancs LOC's secretary Mr David Noblett so we know numbers for catering purposes:
