There is an e-learning package available on the DOCET website which is funded by DOCET for all those with a GOC registration. There are no CET points and it isn't compulsory for NHS work. However, it has already been requested by one enhanced services group. Perhaps this is an opportunity to be ahead of the field. It takes 30mins and you get a certificate at the end. The East Lancs Area LOC AGM was held on Tuesday 10th. May at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Simonstone. The meeting was preceded by a presentation by Mr. Vijaykumar, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon from Burnley, entitled 'The Myth of 21', hilighting the fact that '21' is an arbitrary figure for IOP viewed in the light of central corneal thickness. The talk was well received, and there was much food for thought, despite the constraints of the NICE guidelines. Following the business of the AGM, it was announced that the Committee would be looking to co-opt new members due to the resignations of the Treasurer, Derek Pellowe (performer), Valerie Pellowe (contractor), and Ruth Cuthbert (performer). Ruth Cuthbert has taken up the position of Optical Advisor to the NHS East Lancs. PCT. With the exception of Treasurer, all the officers of the LOC were returned. The new Treasurer is Mark Jinkinson. Any contractors or performers wishing to be considered for the vacant positions on the LOC are invited to contact the Secretary.
